Bike Path Etiquette

The bike paths in Sunriver can get very crowded.  Here are some tips when using the bike paths. These tips are for both bicyclists and pedestrians.

  • Use the correct side of the bike path.  Whichever direction you are heading, use the same side of the path a car would use on the street.
  • Don't stop in the middle of the path.  Move off the path or stay as close to the edge of the path as you can.
  • Don't walk in the middle of the path.  A cyclist coming along behind you may end up hitting you as they go by.
  • Use your words.  Let people know that you are coming up behind them by using voice commands, such as "On your left," or "On your right."
  • Be aware of your surroundings.  Keep your head up and be as equally aware of what is happening behind you, as well as in front of you.
  • Prior to passing someone, look behind you, as someone might be trying to pass you.
  • Keep dogs on a short leash and under your control.
  • If you need to walk single file due to heavy traffic, do so.  Be courteous.
